Historic spots

There are also many historic sites to visit in the VAR department.

Take, for example, the small town of Cotignac, which is built against a rock face some 400 metres high. The village is known for its charming square and numerous fountains. A visit to Notre Dame des Graces, a church on a hill and a small place of pilgrimage, is also well worth it.

In Sillans-la-Cascade, you can reach the waterfall (la cascade) via a short walk from the car park in the village. A lovely walk for nature lovers. The waterfall can only be reached on foot.

The residents of the village of Correns consider themselves the proud ‘owners’ of France’s first organic village. Virtually all produce is grown using organic methods.

 Thoronet Abbey is a remarkable sight. Built by monks over a period of 70 years, this abbey dates from 1230 and is still in good condition.

 Many towns and villages in the VAR organise all sorts of festivities and markets (including antiques, flea and evening markets) during the summer months. You can find out more about these at the local tourist information office in your town or village.
