The Route des Crêtes near Cassis is a drive through a particularly beautiful landscape.
La Route des Crêtes runs from Cassis to the neighbouring town of La Ciotat, a distance of 19 kilometres.
Without any stops, the journey takes about 30 minutes. The Montagne de la Canaille rises up along this short stretch of coastline.
The impressive cliffs of this small, limestone mountain range rise high above the sea and are the highest in France: Cap Canaille is 363 metres high, whilst the Grande Tête reaches 394 metres.
There are dozens of breathtaking viewpoints along the route.
The name of this mountain range is derived from Latin: ‘canalis mons’ means ‘mountain of water’.
