Area

The Mediterranean coastal towns, including Sainte-Maxime, Saint-Tropez, Cannes, Saint-Raphaël and Fréjus, are situated around 65 km from Régusse. Adventurers can take the plunge from the cliffs at the Calanques of Cassis. For those who prefer fresh water, there are, of course, the beaches along Lake Saint-Croix, where a wide range of water sports are available, such as surfing, sailing, catamaran sailing, canoeing and pedalos.

For keen walkers and climbers, there are beautiful walking and climbing routes in and around the Gorges du Verdon.

Golfers also have plenty of options. There are a number of excellent golf courses in the area. Nearby (max. 30 minutes by car): climbing, swimming, golf, walking, mountain biking, horse riding, water sports, mountain sports.

There are also charming markets in the surrounding area in Aups, Villecroze, Salernes and Cotignac.

The region is home to olive groves, vineyards and fragrant lavender fields (early July).

The wine estates of Entrecasteaux and Villecroze are certainly worth a visit. Château de Berne in Lorgues is also highly recommended.

The village of Regusse: For your daily essentials, the village has a bakery, a butcher, a grocer and a supermarket. Naturally, there’s a village café. At Chez Bonne Maman, there’s a set menu every day; you can enjoy a delicious meal here for just €12.00 per person.

Regusse lies in the heart of the VAR in Provence. The mild Mediterranean climate and the azure-blue waters make life here very pleasant. The VAR is home to many old Provençal villages with their narrow streets, old churches, fountains and picturesque squares; around Regusse you’ll find, amongst others, Cotignac (the St Tropez of the Haut-Var), Tourtour (the village in heaven), Sillans with its famous waterfall, Villecroze with its tropical park and caves, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie with its pottery, the Valensole plateau with its lavender fields, Thoronet with its medieval abbey, Verignon and its protected oak forest, Les Salles-sur-Verdon – one of the youngest villages in France – and Quinson with its prehistoric museum (the largest in Europe).

Lac de Sainte-Croix and the entrance to the Gorges du Verdon are a 20-minute drive away.

The Verdon is a tributary of the Durance in the south of France, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, on the border between the departments of Var and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. It rises at Col llos in the Trois Evêchés massif. It flows into the Durance at Vinon-sur-Verdon. Between Castellane and the Le Galetas bridge, the river flows through a deep gorge, the Gorges du Verdon.

The Gorges du Verdon is the largest gorge in Europe and the second largest in the world; it is also known as the Grand Canyon du Verdon, after the Grand Canyon in the United States. This nature park is a very popular destination for nature lovers. Many mountaineers also come to this gorge to test their skills on some of its steep cliffs.

Lac de St-Croix is the second-largest reservoir in France, situated on the border between the departments of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Var. It can also be seen from the air, provided it is not cloudy. The lake has existed since 1973. The village of Les Salles-sur-Verdon used to stand on the site where the lake now lies. Traces of it can still be seen, such as tarmac roads that disappear into the lake. The old village was almost completely levelled and rebuilt 400 metres further on. Near Les Salles-sur-Verdon there is also a small island within swimming distance. In spring and autumn, the water level is so low that you can walk out to it. The lake is also geared towards tourists. Particularly near the entrance to the Gorges du Verdon, catamarans, canoes, kayaks, pedalos and electric motorboats are hired out to people wishing to visit the gorge. Petrol engines are banned due to water pollution, odour and noise nuisance.

Major towns in the vicinity include Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and Riez. There are also a few villages on the lake itself: Les Salles-sur-Verdon, Bauduen and St Croix-du-Verdon. There are two bridges: the Pont de Galetas, near the Gorges du Verdon, and the Pont de St-Croix, close to the dam.

The Entrecasteaux and Villecroze wine estates are certainly worth a visit. Château de Berne in Lorgues is also highly recommended.
